Abstract

Social Mindfulness as a low-cost prosocial behavior is characterized by two components: skill and will. This research investigates whether skill can be induced and if induction leads to increased socially mindful behavior. Mindfulness was measured through a pre-post-design online-survey (N= 175) using the SoMi-paradigm and induction was realized through forced perspective change. Our findings suggest that skill-induction leads to higher levels of social mindfulness in individuals being previously unmindful. Results support the importance of taking both skill and will into account and pave the way for isolating those components in future research.
